The anesthesia technician is a trained member of the anesthesia care team with knowledge of all anesthesia equipment and supplies. The anesthesia technician operates as a part of the! surgical team by assisting the Anesthesiologist/CRNA by maintaining, calibrating and troubleshooting the various equipment used and by stocking and maintaining par levels of all anesthesia supplies and drugs. Is able to assist the surgical services team in room cleaning and turnover. Works in a secure department with access to areas where medications are stored.
POSITION DUTIES:
Level 1
1.1 Replenish medications into various carts/boxes, or kits for anesthesia use.
1.2 Follow established policies and procedures relating to the ordering, receiving, and storage and replenishing of medications and IV solutions.
1.3 Set up the anesthetic machines that will be in operation during surgery and ensure they are functioning properly.
1.4 Support to the anesthesia patient care team in the intake and assessment of patients.
1.5 Transport of patients to operating rooms or other procedure sites.
1.6 Positioning of! patients for proper anesthesia administration.
1.7 M! aintenance and monitoring of airways and vital signs during procedures.
1.8 Ensure that an adequate stock of medications and supplies are available to anesthesia.
1.9 Drugs must be available in the proper dosages and the intravenous therapy supplies and equipment must be readied.
1.10 Complete occurrence reports and anesthesia preference cards.
1.11 Prepare specialty carts: code cart, intubation cart, emergency line cart, and medication night cart.
1.12 Organize workroom and follow equipment cleaning protocol.
1.13 Act as a resource to medical and O.R. staff.
1.14 Clean room and setup individualized trays.
1.15 Ensure proper maintenance of equipment resources
1.16 Assist with operation of the various anesthesia equipment used.
1.17 Ensure there is no reuse (re-cleaning or re-sterilization) or reprocessing of any medical equipment/product/supply/device that is labeled single-use ! and/or disposable.
1.18 Follow all standard and isolation precautions.
1.19 Washes and sterilizes reusable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate personnel.
Level 2 â€" Proficient (in addition to above duties)
2.1 Participate in training new staff.
2.2 Troubleshoot errors and perform quality assurance checks.
Level 3 â€" Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties)
3.1 Participate in quality improvement measures and monitoring within the department
3.2 Provide information to the Manager/Director as requested in review and update of department functions and procedure revision department functions and procedure revisions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education Required: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)
Certificates Required: A.T. Certification eligible; Must attain Certification A.T (Certified Anesthesia Techni! cian) within one (1) year of employment.
Preferred: Cer! tification A.T. (Certified Anesthesia Technician)
Experience Required: Minimum of two (2) years previous experience as Anesthesia Tech Knowledge of hospital environment.
Skills Required: Must possess effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge Required: Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Technology Required: Basic Computer Skills
Other Required: Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends. Must be able to take call rotation as required. Must be able to perform all duties, including lifting and transferring, using proper body mechanics.
