Anesthesia technologist assists anesthesiologists and other health care providers in delivering anesthesia into the circulatory or respiratory systems of their patients. Anesthesia technologis! ts assist in administering general and local anesthesia, as well as monitored anesthesia care (MAC) and regional anesthesia. They obtain, prepare, apply, and maintain the equipment and materials necessary for safe and effective administration. This includes monitoring both the patient and the anesthesia delivery system at all stages of the process; before, during, and after the anesthesia is administered. Has expertise in anesthesia equipment and can troubleshoot and provide first-line repair of anesthesia equipment. Functions as an integral part of the anesthesia care team (ACT) at an advanced level. Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the department.
POSITION DUTIES:
Level 1
1.1 Support anesthesia providers with patient care.
1.2 Perform basic and advanced life support, as well as pediatric advanced life support
1.3 Proficient with intra-operative fluid management and volume resuscitation
1! .4 Skilled in operating the auto transfusion machinery.
1.6 Monitoring of the intra-aortic balloon pump during surgery.
1.7 Thorough knowledge of a wide range of anesthesia delivery systems, as well as of related medical equipment, including rapid infusion devices, EKGs, pulse oximeters, scavenger systems, and gas analyzers, patient warming devices, humidification units, endoscopic equipment, infusion pumps, and neuromuscular devices.
1.8 EKG administration, reading and detect dysrhythmias and arrhythmias on patient EKGs during the application of anesthesia.
1.9 Assist anesthesia providers before, during and after surgery and are trained to anticipate the needs of the anesthesia provider and the patient.
1.10 Assist with insertion of central IV lines, peripheral IV lines, and arterial lines
1.11 Set up, assist with insertion, and monitor a pulmonary artery catheter.
1.12 Ensure that an ade! quate stock of medications, IV’s and supplies are available for anesthesiologists.
Level 2 â€" Proficient (in addition to above duties)
2.1 Lead and coordinate various staff on the anesthesia patient care team and communication with representatives of other healthcare teams involved with the patient’s case, as well as participation in various departmental or institutional committees and taskforces.
Level 3 â€" Subject Matter Expert (in addition to above duties)
3.1 Participate in quality improvement measures and monitoring within the department
3.2 Provide information to the Manager/Director as requested in review and update of department functions and procedure revisions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education Required: Associate’s degree or completion of course work in anesthesia technology is required as a minimum qualification. Must have High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)

Certificates Required: Certified Anesthesia Technician and ! Technologist (Cert. AT and Cert. ATT) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support and IV certification.
Preferred: Specialty areas (CPR addendum)
Experience Required: Three (3) years of clinical work experience in health care administration in anesthesia or related allied health field
Preferred: Knowledge of hospital environment desired
Skills Required: Verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge Required: Must be able to follow written and verbal instruction.
Technology Preferred: Basic computer skills
Other Required: Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends. Must be able to take call rotation as required. Must be able to perform all duties, including lifting and transferring, using proper body mechanics.
